Success at Silverstone!
The Silverstone GP Round 1 was a challenging yet exciting event for FormEvo Clark Racing – sponsored by Expedite Law – in the Britcar Trophy race.
Despite the initial plan to keep the attendance modest, more than 30 guests showed interest in the event. The team had to familiarise themselves with the regulations before the race, such as the pitstop procedure and the rolling start, where all competitors had to drive at pace in tight grid formation until the lights went out.
The race remained wet, making it difficult for drivers to maintain visibility, but the team managed to secure the pole position in Class 2 and even mixed it up with the top-class cars. In Race 1, the team had to contend with a front-running Ginetta turning sideways in their path, but they managed to make a good judgement call and gain position. Despite the rear left tyre breaking away through right-handers, the team managed to pit earlier than planned and secured the Class win and 8th overall.
Race 2 saw the team issued a 15-second success penalty, but they managed to make a couple of overtakes and even capitalised on the first safety car period for their pitstop. Despite missing out on a champagne podium, the team secured a 3rd overall finish and another comfortable Class win.
Reflecting on the day, the team discovered that endurance racing required more of a team effort, with strategy being as important as driver performance. The team principal had to constantly monitor data points and act on insights, while the driver provided feedback on conditions and how the car was behaving. It was a successful event for FormEvo Clark Racing, and they have proven their ability to execute a great strategy to outperform the competition
Form Evo Clark Racing go into Brands Hatch round 2 with confidence, but far from complacent – it’s a long season and we need to stay on top form, both driving and strategy.
Thanks
